Fundraising and Community Commitment

Since 1995, shack owners at Wedge Island have paid annual lease fees to DPAW (formally DEC and CALM) totalling some $7 million. Unfortunately there has been little or no return back to the community for this money. Therefore for the community to function it has banded together to and raised much needed funds to maintain the area, improve it’s facilities and also continue our ongoing fight to keep Wedge Island for the people of WA.

The Wedge Island Community is a strong, healthy and well organised community with a very active elected committee called WIPA (Wedge Island Progress Association) WIPA has been negotiating with the government on behalf of it’s members and all West Australians to be able to maintain and enjoy this unique lifestyle and magnificent piece of coastline.
