EASTER ANZAC DAY LONG WEEKEND

EASTER ANZAC DAY LONG WEEKEND

The combined Easter and Anzac Day long weekend provided a great opportunity for family fun at Wedge.
The traditional fun run was hotly contested, with a good rollup of youngsters.  Each child received a hat compliments of FAL.  Face painting for the runners provided another level of fun for all.  A minor hiccup with the icy poles resulted in a delay in their distribution, but were still well received.

The Easter Ball was, as usual, a big hit with everyone getting into the spirit of the “op shop” dress standard. The long strings of red bulbs in the new lighting system provided by Brent were very popular.  A few new activities were introduced for the ball, this included 2 short quizzes and lucky numbers give-aways.  Congratulations to the organisers, and special thanks to the members who provided the supper for the party goers.

The ANZAC dawn service was a huge success and a huge attendance, with at least 300 gathered at the point.    RSLMark led the proceedings with a stirring service.   Rosco followed this with two readings from a World War 2 book.
Pea and ham soup, tea, coffee and a sausage sizzle were on hand for all attendees of the service.  Thanks to Lex, Jan, Carol, Jenny and Moya for serving in the van.
Grey had their first ANZAC service, with over 120 attending the pre-dawn gathering – an excellent turn-out.

This was a very busy week-end at Wedge, with many members of the public enjoying the beaches around Wedge.  The advertised blitz by DEC and Shire of Dandaragan on motor bikes and campers was somewhat successful, though an obvious lack of presence after Saturday.
