DBCA demolition of shack W096

DBCA are advising that they have demolished and removed shack W096 on the point due to the danger it poses to children playing in the area. WIPA agree that there is a risk in letting this shack deteriorate further and become fully engulfed, however we were not consulted in deciding how to deal with this. We have raised this as an issue with DBCA as we do not want their standard response to similar future issues to be “demolish and remove”, rather than preserve and protect.

Removing any shacks from the area detracts from the value of the whole settlement as a thriving shack community and we do not want to see Wedge, as a significant heritage site, whittled away shack by shack.

For information, the owners of shack W096 were not WIPA members.
