30 players took to the field for the 2016 Australia Day Cricket Match.
The two teams that faced off after selections were the Wedge ‘Tales’ (captain Ben) and the Sea ‘Lyons’ (captain Brinny)
There was some outstanding play particularly from the juniors.
The Sea Lyons batted first and won easily in what turned out to be a very high scoring game
As usual there was a very boisterous crowd cheering on the players and teams.
Lots of comedy both on and off field, mostly from Lisa Wiley and her usual antics.
Great commentary on the game by Dean and several others sharing the microphone.
During the game there were a lot of sixes and many lost balls – the Rules Committee may be convened to review rules for next year
We were fortunate that John Rutherford, ex Australian Test cricketer who played one test in 1956-57 and toured with Bradman who lives in Lancelin, attended the match again and was able to present the Man of the Match award.
Ethan Coleman (8 yo) was awarded Man of the Match for his efforts, including running and leaping to make a very hard catch.
